What you should know as the seller
Selling your vehicle does not have to be a tedious and daunting process. Selling your used car can be as simple as ordering takeout food. Once you have accepted the buyer's offer all you need to do is prepare your vehicle ownership documentation.
Your vehicle title is an official document and it is required every time a vehicle is sold or purchased to be filed with the DMV in order to maintain registered owner's information and vehicle history information. You must have the vehicle title in hand and in your legal name prior to selling the vehicle. Along with the title, you'll want a government-issued ID that assures buyers that the name on the title is in fact yours. Other items that aren't required but may help you get more for your vehicle is an extra set of keys, maintenance records, & receipts. If you have a lien placed on the vehicle you must ensure all outstanding loans and debts on the vehicle are paid in full prior to transferring ownership.
