The automotive market is always changing and evolving. We have been tracking sales of car & truck models currently being sold in the US. While some brands and models of vehicle sales have decreased for the 2024 year many cars are showing strong sales numbers. Due to the shortages created during the covid pandemic some brands had a hard time keeping up a sufficient inventory to meet demand. However, things have changed since 2022. Most automakers are finally producing more cars to meet demand as supply chain issues continue to ease. While Stellantis struggled to match the previous year's sale volumes, other major players—namely Ford, GM, Toyota and Honda—saw increases compared to 2022. Interestingly, it's not just SUVs and trucks that saw significant sale increases; many sedans also performed well and represent a portion of the list.

Here are the top 10 selling cars in the US as of first quarter of 2024;

  1. Ford F150

As the most popular selling vehicle in America the Ford F150 pick-up truck has won over a lot of different types of buyers from blue color farmers and tradesman to white color professionals. With 573,370 units sold in 2023 it is showing some signs of slowing down for the 2024. With a current total of 352,400 units sold Ford is predicting a 10.2% decrease in sales for the 2024 model year. One reason for this decline could be attributed to the Ford Lightning electric truck. Last year, Ford sold over 24,000 units but negative press related to the truck's reliability, range, and performance may have affected the brand's reputation as a whole. In addition, general slowdown of EV sales has had a further impact on F150 Lighting. However, even with the marginal sales decline, we still believe that the Ford F-150 truck will maintain its position as the number one selling vehicle in the USA in 2024.

  1. Tesla Model 3

With over 340,800 units sold this year the Tesla Model 3 is in line to become one of the top selling vehicles of the recent years. The Tesla Model 3 has revolutionized the electric vehicle market with its impressive range, cutting-edge technology and sleek design. Its popularity continues to grow as more drivers shift towards sustainable transportation.

As another pick-up truck on our list, it shares a lot of the appeal to buyers as the Ford F150. Also, we must account for brand loyalty, as pickup truck buyers tend to be highly dedicated to their preferred brands, often choosing to stick with the same make and model due to their trust in the vehicle's performance, reliability, and overall satisfaction. This loyalty plays a significant role in sustaining high sales figures.
